The new can rules
Suffolk retired curbside recycling sorting on July 1, 2026. Under the new SPSA SORT program, an AI-powered facility in Portsmouth separates recyclables from the trash — so at the curb in The Preserves at Lake Mead, things just got simpler.
Do this now
- Bag ALL waste before it goes in a can — trash and recyclables
- Use either can: green, blue, or both — color no longer matters
- Roll out every can you need emptied — all cans are collected weekly
- Keep up to 3 total cans per household, any color mix
Still keep out
- Loose, unbagged waste (cans must stay clean for processing)
- Hazardous chemicals, paint, or motor oil
- Hot ashes or coals
- Construction debris
- Yard waste in the cans (follow city yard-waste rules)
Prefer to keep recycling the old way?
You still can. Suffolk offers a voluntary recycling drop-off dumpster at the regional landfill and the existing recycling convenience center. And whichever can you use, Jaden keeps it fresh — book a cleaning after pickup day.
